In construction, a block layer is a worker who lays bricks, blocks, and other masonry units. The term can also refer to the process of laying bricks and blocks. Block layers in Auckland are responsible for preparing the construction site, mixing mortar, and laying bricks and blocks according to a set pattern.

There are five different types of block layers:

  • Bricklayer:

Bricklayers work with brick as their primary material and they are responsible for erecting walls made from brickwork. They also lay bricks on floors, pavements, bridges and other structures. Their main responsibility is to ensure that the wall is straight and level in order to avoid any problems later on in the building process.

  • Stonemasons:

Stonemasons work with stones instead of bricks as their primary material. They are responsible for cutting stones into different shapes according to the architectural plans of their clients’ buildings or homes. In addition to this, stonemasons also carry out repairs at historic sites such as castles or churches where stones may have been damaged over time by natural disasters such as floods or earthquakes.

  • Retaining wall block layers:

Retaining wall block layers build block retaining walls made from concrete blocks. These walls are used to support hillsides, prevent flooding and contain water runoff in rivers and streams. Retaining wall block layers also may work on walls that contain plants and flowers instead of concrete blocks.

  • Stonecutters:

Stonecutters cut and shape stone blocks by hand or machine. They use pneumatic chisels or circular saws to cut stone into various shapes. Once they have finished cutting and shaping each stone, they place them on pallets to be delivered to their destination. There are two types of stonecutters: rough stonecutters, who cut stones with hand tools; and finish stonecutters who polish the surface of stones with hand tools or power grinders before placing them on pallets for delivery.

  • Brick masons:

Brick masons lay bricks to form walls and install fireplaces, chimneys, and other elements of masonry structures. Brick masons must take care not to damage existing structures during the installation process. They must also ensure that their work is compatible with the building’s design specifications.

So there you have it – the five different types of block layers in Auckland. While block laying is a tough job that requires strength and stamina, it’s also an interesting and rewarding career path in construction.
